From standalone bookmaker to evoke plc

William Hill spent decades as an independent British bookmaker, but the brand has changed hands twice in recent years. Caesars Entertainment acquired the group and kept its US assets, then sold the non-US business, including williamhill.com and the Vegas casino product, to 888 Holdings in a deal completed in July 2022. 888 renamed itself evoke plc in May 2024, so William Hill Vegas now sits in the same stable as 888casino and Mr Green. The record £19.2 million settlement

On 28 March 2023 the Gambling Commission announced the largest enforcement payment in its history: £19.2 million across three William Hill Group licensees. WHG (International) Limited, which runs williamhill.com, paid £12.5 million; Mr Green Limited paid £3.7 million; and William Hill Organization Limited, then operating 1,344 shops, paid £3 million. The failings were serious enough that the regulator considered suspending the licence before settling. Published case studies included a new customer allowed to lose £11,400 in the first thirty days, another who lost £54,252 in four weeks without income evidence being sought, and a Mr Green player who lost £14,902 in seventy minutes. The Commission recorded both customer protection and anti-money laundering breaches across the three businesses.

How players describe the casino today

Complaint boards tell a familiar story around William Hill's gaming products. If you are in Canada or Australia

The William Hill (Casino / Vegas) Great Britain licence carries no protection in Canada or Australia. If you are in the UK

Three stages apply in Great Britain, and the William Hill (Casino / Vegas) licence makes them mandatory.
